The first step in using DIPPlus is to get the blast design onto the mobile device. It is assumed that at this stage the design contains only the drilling information (location, diameter, design depth, etc) for the blast holes.
Data can be transferred onto the device in two ways:
1. By allowing DIPPlus to communicate directly with SHOTPlus over a USB link, or
2. By exporting the design data to a text file and manually copying it onto your device.
Before proceeding, run SHOTPlus and open the .spf file containing the blast design you want to import into DIPPlus. If you are working with very large blasts (for example more than 2000 holes), please see this FAQ for tips on how to reduce the risk that DIPPlus will run out of memory. One of the options is to export only a subset of the holes in the blast.
Method 1: Using the USB Data Link
1. Check you have set DIPPlus's server type (on the Comms tab under Menu / Tools / Options) to match the version of SHOTPlus that you will be connecting to.
2. Connect your device to the PC on which SHOTPlus is running.
3. The state of SHOTPlus's communications server is indicated by the 'traffic light' icon in the bottom-right corner of the SHOTPlus window. If the icon is red, click the small arrow next to the icon and choose 'start server'.
4. In DIPPlus, tap the IMPORT button.
If a comms link could be established, you will be told which blast is currently open in SHOTPlus. Answer 'Yes' to import the blast. By default, blast data is saved in the My Documents folder on the device.
5. After importing and saving the blast data, the blast will be opened.
Method 2: Using BML Files
In some situations, using the USB link to transfer data to DIPPlus is not convenient. An alternative is to export the data to a BML file from within SHOTPlus and then to copy that file manually onto your device. BML (Blast Markup Language) is the file format used by DIPPlus to exchange data with SHOTPlus.
1. To export data to a BML file, click File / Export / Blast Markup Language File.
You will be prompted for the kind of blast data you want to include in the export.
- The Drilling State option consists of blasthole design parameters including location, diameter and depth, as well as any measured values of quantities such as hole depth, water concent and temperature.
- The Charging State option consists of blasthole loading designs and any as-loaded values of quantities such as deck horizon, product, charge weight and primer counts.
- The Dipping Path and Loading Path (if defined) can also be exported to a BML file.
- The Layers option causes any point of polyline objects in the layer named 'BML' to be exported to the file.
- The Monitor Points option is not used by DIPPlus. It makes no difference whether it is ticked or not.
2. Ensure the Drilling State option is ticked and click OK. You will be prompted for a location and file name for the saved data.
Note: SHOTPlus creates compressed BML files that have a '.bmz' suffix.
Once the BML file has been exported, you can copy it to another PC if necessary, for example if your device is not in the same physical location as your SHOTPlus PC.
3. Connect your mobile device to the PC with a USB cable.
4. Run Windows Explorer and navigate to the BML file you have exported from SHOTPlus.
5. Right - click on the file and choose Send To / Mobile Device.
6. Click 'Send' to upload the file to the device. The default destination on the device is the 'My Documents' folder. DIPPlus will 'see' the uploaded file as long as it is located in My Documents or in any subfolder below it.
7. In DIPPlus, tap the OPEN button.
If you have previously opened a blast then you will see a popup menu containing the five most recently used blasts. You can pick one of these blasts to reopen. If there are no recently used blasts, or if you tap the Browse option at the bottom of the list, DIPPlus will display a file list from which you can choose the file to open. The list will contain all blast files in or below My Documents.
